The start of the year brings new fashion trends that will be popular in the coming months. As an image consultant, knowing the trends is important to advise your clients on how to stay up to date with fashion and style. That way, they will look stylish both at work and daily life. As always, the focus is on building a versatile and flattering wardrobe.

The Fashion Week shows continue to be that essential guide to lay the style foundations of what designs, clothes, and colors are going to be worn in the spring/summer season of 2023. The latest trends are revolutionary and unique, focusing on self-expression, identity, and the meaning behind fashion.

TRENDS FOR WOMEN

On the one hand, the looks of the 2000s and the ‘preppy’ style will be very present, but there will be new ‘trends’ such as glamorous gothic and transparencies. As for the colors, earth tones, orange, pink, and red will play a leading role.

Metallic and shiny fabrics & ‘night luxe’ style

Metallic fabrics transcend beyond the holiday season to stay in the closets for the rest of the year. They are part of night looks, but also are incorporated into everyday style with silver and gold clothing and accessories. On the catwalk, brands like Chanel, Valentino, and Jason Wu included these metallic tones in their 2023 collections.

The ‘night luxe’ has come to stay. Clothes made with shiny fabrics will be trendy, like the ones presented by Khaite in SS23 both at night and during the day. They combine well with leather-effect pants, romantic blouses, and mini bags. To give it a chic touch, add a pair of sunglasses.

Satin clothes

Another of the fabrics that will succeed this season is satin. An outfit with a satin top or bottom, and even a satin total look, is feminine and elegant. This is how Peter Do in SS23 built a combination of a satin shirt dress and a duster coat in chocolate brown. Fendi also included many satin items of various colors in their SS23 collections. The fabric adds sophistication to the outfits.

Blazer or wrap dresses

The stylish and refined blazer dresses are here to stay. They will be worn in all colors by women of all ages. The majestic approach of Salvatore Ferragamo in SS23 shows how fashionable and elegant these types of pieces look.

Transparencies

Transparencies that reveal skin elegantly have been the stars of many spring/summer 2023 collections. Those types of clothes will take on a new meaning in 2023. They will be associated with elegance and style. Prabal Gurung’s proposal for SS23 confirmed that transparencies are going to be a trend and in all kinds of garments. As part of the transparencies trend, the lingerie-inspired corsets will remain popular. There will be many types of clothing that incorporate a corset, even dresses and jumpsuits.

Oversized blazers and long skirts

A blazer always dresses women up. It is a must-have for layering in spring and summer, and it also makes women look slimmer. As well, midi and long skirts will be very trendy this coming season. They are ideal to give a more sophisticated touch to any look. Brands like Max Mara and Saint Laurent have bet on them.

Pearls, sequins, and rhinestones

A balanced dose of pearls, sequins or rhinestones on clothes brings a modish and unique style to the wardrobe. Beyond the classic pearl jewelry, Givenchy has shown that dresses or jeans can be covered in pearls. It has a high level of personality and femininity.

Colors green and pink

Incorporating vibrant shades into the outfits will be a relevant trend in 2023. For spring/summer, lime tones will be even found in the form of a ‘total look’ or in a midi or long dress like the one by Michael Kors in the SS23 show.

Green will be a trend in all its versions: from the light water green to lime green, which is ideal for summer. Fendi, Armani, Prada, Bottega Veneta have given great importance to this color in their collections.

As well, the color pink promises to conquer the closets and it does so in all shapes and shades. A distinguished proposal is that of Brandon Maxwell in his SS23 Ready-to-wear show, which consists of mixing this color with metallic fabrics.

Gothic aesthetic

The huge success of the series Wednesday and the costumes worn by Jenna Ortega have managed to arouse the interest of all those skeptics of dark aesthetics. Something that different firms have also reinforced on the catwalk, including proposals where black is the protagonist and a certain minimalism for next SS season. Dolce & Gabbana or Versace have been just some of them.

TRENDS FOR MEN

This year marks the return of the desert colors. Denim fashion and minimalist garments in earth colors will be the stars. Men’s fashion will lean towards practicality and comfort, leaving aside clothes that are too tight.

Stripes

Striped prints are always a hit and could be said to be a staple season after season. In 2023, they will not only be found in overshirts; but also in jackets and pants. The key to combining them is to play at mixing the patterns that have at least one color or print in common. That way, they will always look good together.

Cargos

They have been the pants par excellence this fall 2022 and everything indicates that in 2023 they will continue to be one of the favorites. The difference is that they will not only be combined with t-shirts, but there will be added a sophisticated look with jackets and boots, in true Givenchy style.

Items inspired in art and nature

As Alexander McQueen presents for SS 23, clothes seem to be painted with brush strokes, or with illustrations that seem to be taken from a painting. Be that as it may, art is in fashion. Also, green tones, flowers (embroidered or printed) and many more references to nature will be present.

Nature has been very present in this season’s proposals. From the garden through which the Dior male models walk to the countless plant prints that we have seen in Louis Vuitton SS 23 campaign, among others.

Multipurpose blazer and reinvented suits

In 2023, men will keep normalizing wearing a suit jacket with everything, even as daily wear. It is a trend that we have been seeing for several seasons and that goes one step further with Burberry, which combines it this time with a striking rugby-style polo shirt. The dandy style in the 21st century is based on combining formal and informal garments in an impeccable way: boots, tie, shirt, suit pants, and extra thick sweater.

The suit is still present, but in a new version: loose and casual, even for the office. Jackets stick out at the waist. The same goes for the pants, their waist is still high, but the leg increases its volume until it falls straight to the ground. Moreover, suits will be made with bolder colors and patterns.

All denim

Wearing a total denim look gains strength with the return of the 2000s to fashion. Spring/summer 2023 will inspire men to wear denim from head to toe. Jackets, t-shirts, and even sneakers and bags. Make sure that all the pieces have the same tone.

The jeans are a classic that never dies but that always reinvents itself to look fashionable at all times. This 2023 your jeans will be mostly high waisted with a long rise, direct lines from the hip to the legs, a regular ankle length and a light wash.

Sporty style

Garments taken from the sportswear drawer continue to climb positions and the latest addition is proposed by Dior in its collection for spring 2023, combining its shorts with cycling tights underneath.

Whether it’s clothing, sneakers or accessories, inspiration from the skate world trends is everywhere. Tennis shoes with impressive ankle grip, large hoodies, and sweatshirts with bermuda shorts have become a must in men’s fashion trends this 2023.
